Kanpur: Police arrested three men in an encounter late Saturday night in connection with the robbery of Rs 2.70 lakh near Kanpur Ganga Barrage. Two of the accused injured by gunfire were admitted to Lala Lajpat Rai hospital. Police started searching for other members involved in the gang.The robbery took place on the evening of March 2 when auto-borne criminals beat and robbed Rs 2.70 lakh from a resident of Jahanabad Khajuriya in Fatehpur. He came to the city to buy a Bullet motorcycle. The accused fled after the incident, following which police searched for them.During examination of CCTV cameras, the auto’s number was found, which led to the identification of the accused.On Saturday night, police received information that three accused were present in Khewra Katri. When police cordoned off the area, the accused opened fire. In retaliatory firing by the police, two accused were shot in the legs.DCP (Central) Atul Kumar Srivastav said that Jitendra alias Chhotu, Jitendra alias Jeetu, and Sumit from Nawabganj were arrested. Jitendra and Chhotu were shot in the legs. “Police launched a search for other members involved in the gang,” the DCP added.
