Lucknow: Director general of police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna on Tuesday directed senior police officers to strengthen preventive policing, ensure faster completion of criminal investigations and intensify action against narcotics trafficking. He was reviewing the law-and-order situation at the police headquarters. The meeting, conducted through video conferencing, was attended by all zonal additional directors general, commissioners, range inspectors general and deputy inspectors general, along with senior superintendents of police and superintendents of police from UP districts. A major highlight of the review was the significant reduction in public grievances across the state, which the DGP attributed to continuous monitoring, accountability at the district level, and improved quality of grievance redressal at police stations. According to the review, Sambhal, Firozabad and Etawah districts recorded nearly a 70% decline in public complaints, while 15 other districts reported a reduction of more than 40% in complaints. In addition, 48 districts registered a decline of over 30% in grievances. The DGP asked officers from Sambhal, Firozabad and Etawah to submit detailed reports on the strategies adopted in their districts so that similar practices could be replicated elsewhere in the state. The DGP stressed that preventive policing before the registration of FIRs must be strengthened, as early intervention in local disputes can prevent them from escalating into serious crimes. The meeting also focused on improving the quality and speed of criminal investigations. Insisting that Uttar Pradesh currently ranks third on the Centralised Ranking and NCL Dashboard, the DGP directed officers to intensify efforts to secure the top position. He instructed officers to strictly follow provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, under which general criminal investigations should ideally be completed within 60 days, while investigations in serious crimes must be concluded within 90 days. The DGP also conducted a detailed review of the Zero Fatality District (ZFD) campaign, a major road safety initiative aimed at reducing accident deaths across Uttar Pradesh by 40%. Officials said Shravasti recorded an 83% reduction in road accidents, while the rural zone of the Ghaziabad commissionerate reported a 53% decline.
