New Delhi: A 26-year-old man died after being crushed under a fallen tree in a park in southwest Delhi’s Uttam Nagar on Friday evening.The deceased has been identified as Kalu, a resident of D Block, Shiv Vihar in Uttam Nagar. Kalu worked as a guard at a private company and lived with two sisters in Delhi, police said. He was sitting in the park around 5 pm when the incident occurred.A PCR call was received reporting that a tree had fallen inside a park, trapping a man beneath it. On reaching the spot, police found that a eucalyptus tree had collapsed. Kalu was pulled out from under the tree after a portion of it was cut, but he already succumbed to his injuries by then, police said.A police officer added that the tree, believed to be old, had become hollow from within and lost structural strength. It was completely uprooted at the time, the officer added.The body was later shifted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.Last Aug, a man died while his daughter suffered serious injuries when a massive old neem tree toppled onto vehicles amid heavy rainfall in south Delhi’s Kalkaji. The two were on their motorcycle at the time of the incident.
