T’puram: Thampanoor police arrested Sooraj (24) for allegedly assaulting a police officer on duty after being asked to disperse for creating a public nuisance on the road on Sunday.The incident occurred near Muthumariyamman Temple in Thampanoor. Three Rajaji Nagar natives were involved in the assault, out of which one has been taken into custody.According to police, a group of youths were found hurling abuses and creating a disturbance in the area. When the police officer intervened, the accused allegedly attacked the officers. Police officers, including Grade ASI Sreejith and CPO Ashik, sustained injuries in the attack.A search is under way to trace the other two accused.History-sheeter arrestedMuseum police arrested Biju alias Attingal Ayyappan (55), a habitual offender accused in a murder case and several other criminal offences on Tuesday. According to police, Ayyappan was evading arrest for a considerable period. His arrest was carried out as part of ‘Operation Dark Hunt’, a special drive launched to track down absconding criminals and history-sheeters.
