Ludhiana: Two men lost their lives while another sustained injuries after the scooter they were riding rammed into a stationary truck on a flyover near a hospital on the Ludhiana-Delhi national highway on Monday afternoon.According to Moti Nagar police, the three friends were travelling on a scooter from Sherpur towards Samrala Chowk. When they crossed Mohan Dai Cancer Hospital and reached the overbridge near Transport Nagar, the scooter allegedly went out of control due to high speed and crashed into a mini truck parked on the roadside.The deceased were identified as Vijay Masih (43), a resident of Ghati Mohalla, and Gaurav Sehgal (38) of Jassian Road. The injured, Abhi Pal (23) of Ahata Sherganj, was referred to PGI, Chandigarh, for further treatment.Police said Vijay Masih was riding the scooter. He died on the spot on impact. Gaurav Sehgal and Abhi Pal were rushed to hospital, where Gaurav succumbed to his injuries. Abhi Pal remains hospitalised.Sub-inspector Bhupinder Singh, SHO of Moti Nagar police station, said preliminary investigation revealed that the truck had been parked on the roadside by its driver, who had stopped to relieve himself. He fled from the spot after the accident. An FIR has been registered against the truck driver, who is currently absconding, and further investigation is underway.Police said Vijay Masih was a street vendor by profession. He is survived by his wife and two children.
