Kanpur: A woman and a man were killed while 55 pilgrims and the driver were injured when the tourist bus they were traveling in rammed a stationary dumper on Etawah Highway in Kanpur on Saturday, said police.The bus was carrying 57 pilgrims and from Nashik, Maharashtra and was heading to Nepal via Ayodhya.The deceased were identified as Bhagirathi, 60, resident of Nashik and Manoj Yadav (42), a native of Kumri village Nashik. Emergency medical officer of Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital, Dr Ashish Sahu, said the elderly woman was dead when she was brought to the hospital while Manoj died during treatment. The bodies were sent to the mortuary and families were informed. The accident took place on the bridge in front of Ispat Nagar. Panki police station personnel reached the spot and ensured first aid to the injured at Kalyanpur CHC. All injured were then referred to LLR Hospital.DCP S M Qasim Abidi said, the tourist bus heading to Nepal via Kanpur from Nashik crashed into a dumper that had broken down and was standing on the highway and front portion of the bus was damaged completely. He added that two containers and one truck too collided behind the bus, though no one was injured in those vehicles. Abidi suspected the accident may have occurred because the driver dozed off. The pilgrims left Maharashtra on Thursday on a 10-day tour. After darshan at Ujjain Mahakal on Friday, they left departed at 12:30 pm and stopped at a hotel in Bhind at 1:30 am. On Saturday morning, they had tea on Panki Highway in Kanpur and when they moved ahead, the accident occurred on Ispat Nagar bridge.Of the injured, 53 were admitted at LLR, while three were admitted at Kanshiram hospital.
