Alwar: Two persons were electrocuted and 32 others were injured when a DJ truck in a kanwariya procession came in contact with an 11 kV high-tension power line in Beechganwa village under Laxmangarh police station in Alwar Wednesday morning.The deceased kanwariyas were identified as Gopal (22) and Suresh Prajapat (40). Eight of the 32 injured, who were in serious condition, were referred to Alwar after initial treatment at Garhi Hospital.The incident occurred around 8am at the religious procession celebrated the return of kanwariyas, participants of a popular pilgrimage related to Lord Shiva.In response to the tragedy, two electricity department officials, Dinesh Kumar Jat, a junior engineer from Laxmangarh, and Sonu, a helper, were suspended pending further investigation. Villagers expressed their anger by blocking the Laxmangarh-Mundawar road, demanding accountability and compensation for the victims’ families.Witnesses said that as the DJ truck moved through the village, it inadvertently touched the low-hanging power lines, sending an electric current through both the vehicle and the ground. The sudden shock caused chaos, with people dancing on the truck collapsing to the ground.Forest minister Sanjay Sharma later visited the site, where he met with grieving villagers and promised appropriate compensation and assistance to the families of the deceased. He also checked on the injured at the hospital.Following a four-hour negotiation involving local officials, including Laxmangarh SDM and Tehsildar, an agreement was reached to provide immediate govt assistance and access to benefits from govt schemes for the affected families. Tehsildar Mamta Kumari assured that the injured would receive proper medical treatment and care.
