Kolkata: Two persons, Debabrata Chakraborty of Maheshtala and Sirajuddin Molla of Motordighi, were arrested on Saturday with fake Indian currency notes worth Rs 10 crore from a guest house in Sandeshkhali, allegedly owned by former TMC functionary and ex-zila parishad member Sheikh Shahjahan.Cops said the counterfeit currency was stashed inside biscuit cartons, with genuine currency notes placed on top to mislead the authorities. A senior police officer from Basirhat District Police said, “We are investigating the origin of the currency, why it was brought to the hotel, and its intended use.”Multiple raids are underway to look for more fake currency in Sandeshkhali and surrounding areas. The guest house owner, Shahjahan and his close associate, Shibu Hazra, are both in jail over charges of land-grabbing and alleged atrocities against women.
