Hyderabad: Sleuths from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad zonal unit, intercepted two individuals at Nampally railway station on Monday and seized seven tiger nails and three canine teeth suspected to be intended for sale in the grey market.Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officials carried out a targeted operation at the station. Two traffickers were identified and intercepted at the location in a swift and coordinated action.During questioning, one of the suspects took out a transparent zip-lock pouch from his backpack. On inspection, the pouch was found to contain seven tiger nails and three canine teeth.The tiger is a protected species listed under Schedule I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. The possession, transport, or trade of any part of the animal is a cognisable and punishable offence under the law.Officials confiscated the seized material along with the pouch, the backpack used to conceal them, and mobile phones allegedly linked to the smuggling attempt. The two accused and the recovered items were handed over to the Telangana forest department for further investigation and legal action.Forest officials are expected to investigate the origin of the tiger parts and examine possible links to a larger wildlife trafficking network.
