The DGP described the massive haul as the highest in the country.“Under the govt’s Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, seizures rose from 138,241 kg in 2024 to 195,130 kg in 2025, with 74,035 kg already confiscated this year. Kandhamal, Boudh, and Malkangiri districts topped the list with 59,029 kg, 38,755 kg, and 25,574 kg seized respectively,” said Khurania. The top cop informed that financial probes against drug traffickers led to the confiscation of properties worth over Rs 10 crore in three cases. “Our focus is to break the financial backbone of smugglers,” the DGP said.Sixteen proposals for preventive detention of traffickers under the Provisions of Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS) Act, 1988 were submitted to the govt in 2025, with two habitual offenders already detained. The statistics revealed that brown sugar seizures nearly doubled, rising from 9 kg in 2024 to 18 kg in 2025. Police officials said that sustained crackdowns have reduced the brown sugar smuggling compared to 2021, when 49 kg was seized. “Arrests related to brown sugar trafficking surged from 339 in 2024 to 719 in 2025, reflecting intensified action against narcotics networks,” he said.
