Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-New) sleuths, along with the task force police, conducted narcotics screening for 239 individuals, including history-sheeters, miscreants and persons with a history of NDPS cases. Of these, 189 tested positive for the abuse of narcotic substances.On the instructions of Hyderabad commissioner of police VC Sajjanar, the task force and H-NEW teams organised a special drive in coordination with the local police on Thursday. During the drive, medical tests were conducted at Osmania General Hospital (OGH), Gandhi Hospital and the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) in Erragadda.“At Gandhi Hospital, 70 persons were tested, of whom 44 tested positive. At OGH, 80 persons were tested, and 59 tested positive. At the IMH, 89 persons were tested, and 86 tested positive. In total, 189 were found positive, and about 100 of them are history-sheeters. The rest are miscreants and individuals with a history of drug abuse. Most of them tested positive for ganja use, while some tested positive for benzodiazepine,” task force DCP Vaibhav Gaikwad said.Those who tested positive were counselled by doctors on the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of rehabilitation. “Cases are being registered against those who tested positive under the NDPS Act, and they have to attend counselling at rehabilitation centres,” the DCP said.He further stated that the task force and H-NEW will continue anti-narcotic drives while also helping those affected to recover through proper counselling and rehabilitation. “We urge everyone to stay away from drugs and support a healthy and safe community,” the DCP said.
