Kanpur: A pile-up on Agra-Lucknow Expressway in Behta Mujavar area on Thursday morning left 13 people injured after dense fog reduced visibility and triggered a chain collision near Jogikot village.A truck and a dumper collided near Jogikot around 7:30am leading to a collision of 13 vehicles coming from behind. The crash caused a traffic jam of about 4km on the expressway bringing traffic to a standstill.
Truck driver Leela, a resident of Hisar, Haryana, was travelling from Hisar to Bihar carrying mustard oil when it collided with a dumper due to dense fog. The truck and dumper stood diagonally on the road, completely blocking the lane after which four cars coming from behind collided followed by a trailer carrying a tractor. A sleeper bus carrying around 40 passengers from Delhi, crashed into a car standing ahead and crashed into the trailer. The front part of the bus was badly damaged and the bus driver Vivek, a resident of Etawah, got trapped in the cabin. The driver was rescued. The bus passengers escaped by breaking the windows. Two brothers in a car on the accident site -Ritesh and Vikram Yadav, of Begusarai, Bihar, were injured. Some other vehicles also collided in the pile-up.On receiving information, UPDA and police teams reached the spot and started rescue operations. After about one and a half hours of effort, traffic was restored by removing the damaged vehicles. The injured were admitted to Bangarmau Community Health Center with the help of ambulances, and after primary treatment, about 13 seriously injured people were referred to the district hospital.
