Mysuru: The year 2025 was a troubling one for girl children in Mysuru district, with data shared by home minister G Parameshwara revealing that the district recorded the highest number of missing girl children in the last three years. The most alarming detail is that 43 girl children remain untraced, raising serious concerns about their safety. The data also shows that more girls went missing compared to boys during the same period.
The minister provided the information in response to a question raised by MLC Hemalatha Nayak during the ongoing Assembly session. According to the data, 118 girl children went missing in 2025, including 46 cases reported under Mysuru City Police limits. In comparison, 22 boy children went missing in city limits and 28 in the district police limits, of whom seven remain untraced.Parameshwara noted that 2025 saw the highest number of missing child cases in three years. He also listed various interventions undertaken by the police to curb child disappearances, including the formation of Akka teams and the establishment of 43 Anti-Human Trafficking Units (AHTUs) across the state. KV Stanly, co-founder of Odanadi Seva Samsthe, said that this data raises several questions. “As per the Supreme Court order, every untraced child case should be treated as child trafficking. Police failure is the reason for the growing number of girl children missing,” he alleged.“Every year, the number of missing girl children cases is on the rise. We need to ask several tough questions to the govt and police. Currently, the entire world is talking about misuse of children for sex. Police must deal with every missing case strictly,” he urged.Data boxHeadline: Missing casesMysuru city Year Missing (girl kids) Traced Untraced2023 – 31 – 29 – 22024 – 39 – 38 – 1 2025 46 – 38 – 8 Mysuru district Year Missing (girl kids) Traced Untraced2023 – 38 – 36 – 22024 – 68 – 62 – 6 2025 -118 – 83 -35 Source: Legislative council
