Hyderabad: Nearly a decade after a fatal road accident in Hyderabad claimed three lives across three generations, including nine-year-old Ramya, city police have initiated steps to secure the presence of one of the accused believed to be staying in the United States by seeking a red corner notice (RCN) through Interpol.Hyderabad police have begun the process against Vishnu Vineeth, one of the two accused in the case, after he allegedly failed to attend court proceedings. On July 7, 2025, TOI had reported that Vineeth was not appearing before the court, following which the judge issued a non-bailable warrant against him. In Feb this year, Banjara Hills police, through the Crime Investigation Department, sent a proposal to the CBI to pursue an RCN against Vineeth for his alleged role in the accident. While Vineeth is accused of being an accomplice, police said his friend K Shravil was allegedly driving Vineeth’s family car in a drunken condition when the crash occurred near Nagarjuna Circle.“The file is with CBI and they are in the process to send it to Interpol,” Banjara Hills police told TOI. The accident took place on July 1, 2016, when the two friends were returning in a car after consuming liquor at a pub on Banjara Hills Road No. 2. Police said the driver lost control and rammed a road divider near the Panjagutta graveyard at high speed, causing the vehicle to flip onto the other side of the road. At that moment, another car carrying the victims was travelling from the Panjagutta flyover. The vehicle allegedly collided with the accused’s car, which had suddenly fallen in front of them after the crash. In the accident, Ramya, her uncle P Rajesh, and her 65-year-old grandfather Madhusudhana Chary died. The family had picked up Ramya from school and was returning home to Borabanda when the crash occurred. Banjara Hills police initially booked the accused under sections 304-II (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) of the IPC. However, in 2022, Vineeth was discharged from section 304-II charge based on a petition he filed, though he continues to face charges under section 326. While Ramya battled for her life on ventilator support for nine days before succumbing to injuries, her uncle Rajesh died on the spot. Grandfather Chary, who was in ICU for 18 days, died on July 19, 2016.
