Pathankot: One person died while five others suffered injuries when two Volvo buses collided with each other on the Jalandhar–Jammu national highway near Madhopur in Pathankot district in the wee hours of Friday.According to officials, the collision occurred around 2 am. Both buses were en route from Jammu to Delhi. The impact of the crash was so severe that the conductor of one of the buses, identified as Balwant Singh, a resident of Amritsar, died on the spot.The accident also left at least five passengers injured, most of whom are residents of Chhattisgarh. One injured person hails from West Bengal.Personnel from the Road Safety Force rushed to the scene after receiving information and shifted the injured to a private hospital in Pathankot for treatment. Both buses sustained extensive damage due to the force of the collision.Aman Kumar, a passenger on board, told mediapersons: “Most passengers were asleep when a loud crash suddenly jolted us awake. There was panic and screams everywhere.The accident created chaos inside the bus, he added.The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the circumstances leading to the collision.
